Title

Roxbury, Wisconsin

Subject

Roxbury, Wisconsin located in Dane County.

Description

In order to overcome several German Catholics in the United States switching faiths to Protestantism as a result of a lack of priests who knew German, Father Inama Adalbert began preaching in Southern Wisconsin, more specifically in the small city of Roxbury located in Dane County. The missionary work of Father Inama began in the 1840s and continued until his death in 1879. To this day, he is still a very well-known man in the area as he was part of a plethora of deeds. The German-Catholic community desperately needed a man like Father Inama, so much in fact that they sent invitations to him asking them to preach at the nearby church and participate in other pastoral work in the area. Father Inama left the Milwaukee area where he was doing missionary work in order to "learn about the people, the country, their religion and customs to the West up to the middle of Wisconsin.
